Bighorn Sheep feeding in the Redstreak restoration area.
Not only are the sheep enjoying the newly established grasslands but this spring I heard for the first time in 31 years a Clay-colored Sparrow singing around Kootenay National Park administration building. What makes the event special is that these birds prefer open landscapes where plant cover is dominated by grasses or low shrubs. A sure sign that the ecosystem restoration program to restore open forest and grasslands is beginning to work.

Clay - colored Sparrow's song consists of short insect like buzzing sounds![]()
