Harmonized Sales Tax

On July 1, 2010, the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) and the 8% component of the Hotel Room Tax were replaced with the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST). The HST is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency. For information on the application of the HST, please visit the Canada Revenue Agency website at www.cra-arc.gc.ca/harmonization

PST/8% Hotel Room Tax information may still be applicable if, under the transitional rules, PST/8% Hotel Room Tax applies.

The harmonized sales tax (HST) is now in effect in British Columbia. The HST is applied on most purchases of taxable supplies of goods and services in British Columbia at a rate of 12%, consisting of the 5% federal portion and an 7% provincial portion.
